Dr. Sy Rosenblum boasts over 50 years of experience in private practice optometry, culminating in his retirement from Eyesite in 2014. He pursued his undergraduate studies at UCLA and obtained his optometric training and Doctorate from the Los Angeles College of Optometry.
Known affectionately as "Dr. Sy" in the office, he is a true pioneer in contact lens technology. In 1971, Dr. Sy made history as the first Inland Empire doctor to successfully "fit" the groundbreaking soft contact lens from Bausch and Lomb, a precursor to contemporary soft contact lenses. Later, in 1984, he was commissioned by a prominent contact lens company to spearhead research and design for a soft contact lens tailored for thoroughbred racehorses, protecting their eyes during races.
Dr. Sy's involvement in refractive laser surgery surged in the early 1990s when the procedure had yet to gain FDA approval in the United States. Motivated by this, he journeyed to Windsor, Canada, to observe and receive certification from Dr. J. Machot, a leading global laser surgeon. Dr. Sy played a hands-on role, performing the procedure on his wife, Dee, with remarkable success. Formerly extremely nearsighted, she now experiences clear vision without needing glasses or contacts.
Beyond his groundbreaking work, Dr. Sy is an accomplished eyeglass frame designer, having crafted various eyewear lines from his early collaboration with Mr. Blackwell to his current use of high-tech metals like memory titanium. His expertise spans general optometry, contact lenses, laser surgery co-management, and eye disease.
Outside the professional realm, Dr. Sy indulges in his passion for tennis, enjoys traveling, and remains an avid sports enthusiast. He cherishes spending quality time with his four grandchildren.
